If you don’t know this about me already, I counsel teenage girls for my day job. I work at a group home for girls 13-17 with mental health and substance abuse disorders. Often, this means shuttling them from one place to another in a van. Or sometimes, we have down time at the house and the girls put music on while we make dinner. How does this relate to today’s post? Here’s how: I listen to hip hop music All. Day. Long. I have never been a big fan of hip hop music, to be honest. I find it to be often profane, degrading toward women a good amount of the time, and on occasion, downright annoying. (I am clearly not the kind of person who can just enjoy a good beat without noticing the lyrics.) My tolerance for hip hop has increased since I’ve been working with teens for the last 5 years, and on occasion, I even enjoy it. There are certain songs that seem to cause my body to spontaneously burst into dance moves without my permission. (Which the girls that I work with make fun of me about to no end – but I don’t mind.)![]()
Ok, let’s get to the point. I wanted to share a few of my favorite hip hop songs that I think are great for weddings. They are fun and upbeat, and their lyrics are not only clean, but also completely fitting for a wedding celebration. I provided pieces of the lyrics so you can see what I mean. Here they are:
Party rock is in the house tonight
Everybody just have a good time
And we gonna make you lose your mind
Everybody just have a good time
I Gotta Feeling – The Black Eyed Peas
I gotta feeling that tonight’s gonna be a good night
That tonight’s gonna be a good night
That tonight’s gonna be a good good night
Got me lookin’ so crazy right now
Your love’s got me lookin’ so crazy right now
(Your love) Got me lookin’ so crazy right now
(Your touch) Got me lookin so crazy right now
(Your touch) Got me hoping you page me right now your kiss’s
Got me hoping you save me right now
Lookin so crazy your love’s got me lookin
Got me lookin so crazy your love
It’s like I’ve waited my whole life for this one night
It’s gonna be me, you, and the dance floor
‘Cause we’ve only got one night
Double your pleasure
Double your fun
And dance forever (ever, ever)
Ain’t No Other Man – Christina Aguilera (Radio Edit)
Ain’t no other man, can stand up next to you
Ain’t no other man on the planet does what you do
(what you do)
You’re the kinda guy, a girl finds in a blue moon.
You got soul, you got class.
You got style with your bad a** – oh yeah!
Ain’t no other man its true – all right -
Ain’t no other man but you.
‘Cause baby you’re a firework
Come on, show ‘em what you’re worth
Make ‘em go “Oh, oh, oh”
As you shoot across the sky-y-y
DJ Got Us Falling In Love – Usher
‘Cause baby tonight, the DJ got us falling in love again
Yeah, baby tonight, the DJ got us falling in love again
So dance, dance, like it’s the last, last night of your life, life
Gonna get you right
‘Cause baby tonight, the DJ got us falling in love again
Only Girl (In The World) – Rihanna
Want you to make me feel like I’m the only girl in the world
Like I’m the only one that you’ll ever love
Like I’m the only one who knows your heart
Only girl in the world…
Say Hey (I Love You) – Michael Franti & Spearhead
I say, hey, I be gone today
But I’ll be back around the way
It seems like everywhere I go
The more I see, the less I know
But I know one thing that I love you, baby girl
I love you, I love you, I love you
Hope these help those of you who want hip hop songs for the young people at your wedding to shake a leg to, but don’t want to… for example, send your conservative aunt into cardiac arrest if she notices the lyrics. And for those of you who think ALL hip hop songs are the coolest, more power to you! We all have our unique tastes!

Great choice of songs…BUT her dress is amazing! xo
Great song choices! I like hip hop, but a lot of songs definitely aren’t wedding appropriate!
Great post! Love some of these songs for a reception!
GREAT post and so perfect for hip hop lovers that don’t want to offend anyone!
Haha, awesome post!! These are all great choices and definitely make you want to just dance! My hubs played the very UN-edited version of Cee Lo’s “F*ck You” at our reception, although I’m not sure that classifies as hip hop. Just embarrassing.
Awesome post idea! I know that there were definitely a couple of songs that came on through the iPod that I was concerned about the elder guests dancing to =P
I just love love that dress
