Group Dances Are A Thing ~ Embrace It

Happy Friday friends! We’re talking about group dances today. If you’ve ever been to a wedding, there is a 99% chance that you’ve experienced them. The YMCA, the Chicken Dance, and the Macarena held popularity for years. Many brides today have these on their “do not play” list. The Electric Slide is still fairly popular – I have been to weddings where the crowd starts up the dance even if the official “Electric Slide” song is not playing.

I think the main point of these songs is that people need a break from their own dance moves, which most people run out of after approximately half an hour. Which is not to say that they won’t keep dancing – if it’s a fun crowd they’ll just keep on busting the three moves they got well into the night. It’s nice to throw in a couple of songs though that help break up the monotony. The newest versions of group dancing are the following. They’ve played at all three weddings I’ve been to this year (including mine) and they were crowd pleasers. So even if you aren’t a fan of group dances, you may want to just embrace them – people love it.

1. Cupid Shuffle – If your guests don’t know this one it will only take them about 30 seconds to learn it. Plus halfway through the song he gives directions – “To the right, to the left, now kick, now walk it by yourself.” And just like he says in the song, “It don’t matter if you’re young or old” – your guests can handle this one, I promise.

2. Cha Cha Slide – This one also has clear directions in the song – “One hop this time, right foot now stomp,” etc. It has more variety than the Cupid Shuffle but the directions are quite clear throughout the song – it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to get it.

3. Gangham Style – Ok this one isn’t officially a group dance, but the Korean sensation that has taken America by storm is just too popular not to mention. And the dance moves from the video catch on, and before you know it, it looks like a group dance.

Any I missed?
