Guest Post | These Arms Of Mine

**Update 8/6/11 Spotify is available in the US!! It’s a great resource for planning your wedding music. Read how Elizabeth used it!**

I’m so happy to have Elizabeth guest posting today! Her blog, Bridal Musings, is a fantastic source of inspiration and gorgeousness. After you read this, go pay her a visit. She’s sharing with us a bit about her and her then-fiance, Zee’s musical choices for their day. Note: The web site that Elizabeth suggests for brides is unfortunately not available for those of us in the states, and some other countries too. Which is a bummer because it looks like an amazing resource! According to the site though, they’ll be launching in other states soon. Anyway, on with the show. Here’s Elizabeth:

Hello music lovers!

I’m really pleased to be doing a guest post on Soundtrack To I Do. It’s such a fabulous blog! Music was a veryimportant part of our wedding day. My husband and I always knew we wanted a good old ‘knees up’ with all our closest friends and family on our wedding!

Here’s a bit of info about me, our music playlist and our first dance dilemma:

My husband Zee {short for Ziad} and I got married last year on August 1st and oh my how I loved planning our wedding. I became a wedding blog addict and loved every moment of our wonderful wedding day, which only made me appreciate all things wedding-related even more! So just under four months ago I started Bridal Musings, a wedding blog full of chic and unique wedding inspiration for all my fellow wedding geeks out there.

Zee is actually a full on tech/internet geek {he is editor in chief of an international technology blog} and he suggested we use Spotify to create our wedding playlist. This was such a good idea and I highly recommend it to couples who will be hiring a DJ. We created a joint playlist which meant we could both add our own personal favourite tracks and the tracks that were meaningful to us as a couple, as and when we thought of them in the run up to our big day. Then we passed it onto our DJ. Simple as that. We ended up with quite an eclectic list with everything from Micheal Jackson ‘Dirty Diana’ {Zee’s choice}, Kings of Leon ‘Sex On Fire’ {my choice} to La Roux ‘Bullet Proof’ {our joint choice} – oh and some Arabic tunes to celebrate Zee’s culture too!

The First Dance

Zee and I always thought our first dance was going to be Al Green’s ‘Let’s Stay Together’. It felt like his greatest hits album was on repeat during those first few months when we were falling for each other, back in our uni days. However, two days before our wedding, we decided to have a practice run in our bedroom…and thank goodness we did! We just looked and felt SO awkward because it’s such a jaunty song-it calls out for cheesy clapping and finger clicking…not very romantic!

So we opted for Otis Redding (another soulful singer we both adore) and his exquisite song, ‘These Arms of Mine’. As a result, we both felt much more comfortable slow dancing while all eyes were on us.

We cunningly requested ‘You’ve Got the Love’ by Florence and the Machine as the next track so we’d entice lots of guests onto the dancefloor for a boogie and take the spotlight off us ASAP!
