Top 40 | August

I’ve decided that the top 40 posts can be monthly, since there are only 2-3 songs added to the charts each week, and much of the time they are not wedding appropriate. So here are the favorites from August. And by favorites, I mean songs you might like to use at your wedding. Not my personal favorites. See comments.

1. Play Hard – David Guetta

Fun for dancing. Not much more to be said for this one.

2. Everything Has Changed – Taylor Swift

I was a big fan of Taylor’s in the past. Recently I feel her music has taken a serious turn for the worse. Despite that, this is a sweet song with some pretty harmonies. I can get on board with this one. A good one for cocktail/dinner time.

3. Still Into You – Paramore

This song has one of those in between tempos that makes it challenging to place at a wedding. Too loud/fast for cocktail hour, and not quite loud/fast enough for dancing. This could be a cute recessional song or party entrance for a couple who loves Paramore, or a long lasting couple getting married. “After all this time, I’m still into you.”

4. Take Back The Night – Justin Timberlake

Everyone loves JT, but this one also has an awkward tempo. (And that 70′s feel that kills me – I don’t know why we’re bringing that back.) It’s a fun song but it might be a bit too slow for your guests to dance to. Fair warning.

5. Best Song Ever – One Direction

For One Direction fans. Which I am not. Different stokes for different folks. No judgment. Just didn’t want to leave it out in case you think it’s… the best song ever.

6. True Love – Pink

I wasn’t going to list this one but I changed my mind. I’m guessing most couples won’t want this song at their wedding. Any song that starts out “Sometimes I hate every single stupid word you say, sometimes I wanna slap you in your whole face” is usually not going to be a top contender for a wedding song. But hey, it’s a love song. And like I said, different strokes.

7. First Time – Jonas Brothers

Ok, I’m sensing a pattern here. Again, not a Jonas Brothers fan. I suppose Top 40 is not my genre. However, this is where most of the current dance songs come from, so it’s worth sharing. And I try not to limit this blog to MY favorites only. This is for you, and your wedding. So here’s a Jonas Brothers love song for your special day. Enjoy.

First Dance Fridays | Vegas Wedding

Happy Friday!! Since we’ve been collaborating with Kelly from Little Vegas Wedding, and we’re on a Vegas kick, I thought we’d share a handful of first dance songs for a Las Vegas wedding! And if you’re not getting married in Vegas… these still work! They are classics. Enjoy.

It’s Now Or Never – Elvis Presley

It’s now or never,
Come hold me tight
Kiss me my darling,
Be mine tonight
Tomorrow will be too late,
It’s now or never
My love wont wait

The Way You Look Tonight – Frank Sinatra

Some day, when I’m awfully low,
When the world is cold,
I will feel a glow just thinking of you
And the way you look tonight

You’re Nobody ‘Til Somebody Loves You – Dean Martin

You’re nobody ’til somebody loves you
You’re nobody ’til somebody cares
You may be king, you may possess the world and it’s gold,
But gold won’t bring you happiness when you’re growing old
The world still is the same, you never change it,
As sure as the stars shine above;
You’re nobody ’til somebody loves you,
So find yourself somebody to love

Let There Be Love – Nat “King” Cole

Let there be birds
To sing in the trees,
Someone to bless me
Whenever I sneeze
Let there be cuckoos,
A lark and a dove,
But first of all, please –
Let there be love

Come Fly With Me – Michael Buble

Come fly with me, let’s float down to Peru
In llama land there’s a one-man band
And he’ll toot his flute for you
Come on fly with me, let’s take off in the blue
Once I get you up there where the air is rarified
We’ll just glide, starry-eyed
Once I get you up there I’ll be holding you so near
You may hear all the angels cheer ’cause we’re together

Guest Post | Vegas Bachelorette Playlist

I’m excited to have Kelly from Little Vegas Wedding here with us today to share a playlist for a bachelorette… Vegas style! Enjoy.JamieY Photography

Hi everyone! My name is Kelly and I blog about modern Vegas weddings at Little Vegas Wedding. I’m so pleased to be guest blogging today on Soundtrack To I Do!

I know not everyone has the pleasure of getting hitched in Las Vegas – although I fully believe everyone should … at least once –;)! However, I do know a lot of men and ladies celebrate their stags/stagettes/shags/bachelorettes {insert name here} in the City of Sin. And why not? It’s a great central meeting place to convene friends from all over, it’s easy to get around, it can be inexpensive and there is so much fun to be had.

For me, one of the most important parts of any trip to Vegas is the background music. From the time my plane touches down and I’m in my rental car, I usually have a playlist of songs going to get me in the mood. (Yes, I’m a Vegas wedding blogger who doesn’t live in Las Vegas!)

Keeping with that theme, I’m a firm believer that every bachelorette party must have a soundtrack! So here are some of the must listen to songs for a party in Vegas, perfect while getting ready to hit the ultralounges, cruising in your limo, or even for playing at a Vegas style bachelorette in your hometown!

These suggestions are full of Vegas fun, and sprinkled within a mix with your favorite girl power anthems or Colleen’s Top 40 picks, they are sure to get you groovin’ before you head out for an evening of fun! If I left your favorite Vegasy song out, be sure to add it in the comments!

Elvis vs Junkie XL – A Little Less Conversation

No trip to Sin City should be without Elvis. The updated funky 2002 remix of the 1968 classic is sure to have you shaking your hips, Elvis style.

Frank Sinatra - Luck be a Lady

Perhaps one of my favorite choreographed songs for the Bellagio fountains, Sinatra’s crooning will inject a little Rat Pack glory into your night, and maybe a little luck at the tables.

Carrie Underwood - Last Name

Even Mrs. Mike Fisher donned blue feather boas with her besties in Vegas for her bachelorette party! I have a feeling isn’t a biographical song, but the Vegas video is great!

Faith Hill – Let’s Go to Vegas

Confession: I’m not a huge fan of country (although you wouldn’t know it from this list!) However, there’s something about country tunes about Vegas that just get me movin’!

Clubstrophobia – Vegas

A little downtempo dance groove perfect for cruising the Strip.

ZZ Top  – Viva Las Vegas

Any good Vegas playlist will include this anthem. If the bearded band isn’t quite your style, good news: there are dozens of covers of this Vegas classic in dozens of styles. I love the Dolly Parton version, too!

Katy Perry – Waking Up in Vegas

The morning after the night before is always fun in Vegas as you recount the details over brunch the next day, and shake the glitter off.

Tony Bennett & Lady Gaga – The Lady is a Tramp

Okay, you may not be a tramp but how can you deny the reigning Queen of Pop with King Tony on a little bit of Vegas-style loungey singalong fun?

Midi Mafia (feat. Chanel) - PHamous

Cause “everybody’s famous in Vegas.”;)

Dixie Cups - Chapel of Love

An upbeat song that talks about going to a chapel to get married. I like to pretend that chapel is one of the hundreds in Las Vegas.

Lady Gaga - Poker Face

Okay, so it’s not about Las Vegas or even really about poker, but it is catchy and seriously danceable.

Shania Twain – Man! I Feel Like A Woman

This country queen and sometime headliner in Las Vegas, sings this song, perfect for “doin’ what you dare” and more…

INXS - Pretty Vegas

For when it’s time to turn up the rock, turn this one up!

Britney Spears - Gimme More

Rumor has it Ms. Spears will finally be opening her own residency show on the Strip in 2014. Until then, I dare you to not dance along to this naughty song!Photos from a real Vegas bachelorette party by JamieY Photography

Thanks for sharing Kelly! Love this list! Kelly also has a HUGE Vegas playlist on her own blog here. Check it out!

Mi Belle Photography via Style Me Pretty

Bob Dylan – Forever Young

May God bless and keep you always
May your wishes all come true
May you always do for others
And let others do for you
May you build a ladder to the stars
And climb on every rung
May you stay forever young

The Beach Boys – God Only Knows

I may not always love you
But long as there are stars above you
You never need to doubt it
Ill make you so sure about it
God only knows what I’d be without you

The Beatles – I Will

Love you forever and forever
Love you with all my heart
Love you whenever we’re together
Love you when we’re apart

The Rolling Stones – She’s A Rainbow

She comes in colors everywhere;
She combs her hair
She’s like a rainbow
Coming colors in the air
Oh, everywhere
She comes in colors

Billy Joel – Just The Way You Are

I said I love you and that’s forever
And this I promise from the heart
I could not love you any better
I love you just the way you are

James Taylor – You’ve Got A Friend

You just call out my name, and you know where ever I am
I’ll come running to see you again
Winter, spring, summer, or fall, all you have to do is call and I’ll be there, yeah, yeah,
you’ve got a friend

Otis Redding – That’s How Strong My Love Is

If I was the Sun way up there
I’d go with love most everywhere
I’ll be the moon when the sun goes down
Just to let you know that I’m still around
That’s how strong my love is, woh
That’s how strong my love is

Paul Simon – Father And Daughter

I’m gonna watch you shine
Gonna watch you grow
Gonna paint a sign
So you’ll always know
As long as one and one is two
There could never be a father who loved
His daughter more than I love you
