Top 40 | October

Welcome to the October edition of Top 40 songs for your wedding!

Unfortunately the October top 40 charts did not have a whole lot to offer us in the way of wedding music. The first week brought us Pretty Brown Eyes, by Cody Simpson, but I’m just not going to recommend it because it’s every kind of annoying. It also brought us Bruno Mars’ Gorilla, but it’s not super wedding-ish since it’s quite dirty and borderline misogynistic. A far cry from Just The Way You Are.

The second week didn’t get much better. I usually recommend all JT songs, since they just make you want to shake it. TKO is no exception, but it’s also about cheating and breaking up, so… not a top contender. Miss Movin’ on by Fifth Harmony is another song about breaking up. Maybe people just don’t release love songs in the fall? I can’t say. And of course, Miley Cyrus came in like a Wrecking Ball, in all her strange, sad, naked glory. Oh, Miley.

Britney Spears did come out with one danceable one that week… which begins our very short list of October favorites.

1. Work, Work – Britney Spears

You can dance to it. That’s pretty much it.

2. Alone Together – Fall Out Boy

It has one of those tempos that’s not quite mellow enough for dinner and not fast enough for dancing, but it is a love song. The first one.

3. Marry Me – Jason Derulo

A pretty sweet song, actually. Very appropriate. This would be a great recessional songs for R&B/pop/hip-hop fans.

And week 4 had no new songs. Interesting month.

Didn’t want to leave you totally high and dry, so here’s a musical gem for you. It still has that somber feeling that seems appropriate for fall, while being hauntingly beautiful and containing wedding vows for lyrics. So there you go.

Happy Halloween | Festive Inspiration + Playlist

Happy Halloween!

I think Halloween is super fun, but to be honest with you, I think it’s one of the tackier holidays. If I ever went to a Halloween wedding, I would hope it would be glammed up like in the inspiration board below. Lacking in the literal, cliched, and (dare I repeat the word?) tacky traditions of Halloween, but maintaining the spirit of Halloween with a little elegance attached to it.

Your Soundtrack | Marisa (Beach Destination Wedding + Tropical/Reggae/Oldies Playlist)

Your Soundtrack = My response to brides asking for music help. If you would like help with music for your wedding day, contact me! I’d love to do what I can.

Today’s soundtrack is for Marisa. Here’s what Marisa had to say: “Our wedding is at the beginning of summer, set amongst beautiful bush landscape and beaches at an exclusive retreat where our immediate family of 16 guests are getting together whilst we tie the knot. The ceremony will be held outside under a tree, the pre-dinner drinks involves playing bocce, croquet and giant jenga whilst relaxing and listening to a couple of talented young girls playing the guitar and singing, followed by a dinner with lots of food and dancing. It has a very elegant and intimate feel. We need help with the dinner and dancing tunes please. For the dinner we are thinking laid back acoustic music, such as bob marley, john butler, jack Johnson, Xavier rudd, U2 etc and a couple of classics e.g Frank Sinatra. The biggest issue we are having is the music for dancing, we have very similar tastes when it comes to music and we both don’t want the traditional dance wedding songs. After looking through some of your dance playlists we would love a great upbeat mix consisting of beach tunes, old classics 50′s, 60′s, reggae and some newer tunes. Your help would be greatly appreciated, thank you so much.”

I LOVE your site!! I am getting married in may. It’s an outdoor DIY, vintage wedding. My dress is tea length and lace, very 1950s. We are decorating with tea cups, lace, pearls, oil lamps, old books, paper flowers, etc. I need help with music. I’ve asked my niece to emcee for me, but I need a playlist. Can you help?

I want a mix of oldies, country, pop, dance rock along with a few of the cliche dance numbers for the kids( cha cha slide, YMCA, etc. and Cupid shuffle is a MUST! Our flower girl who is 14 months now LOVES that song.) any help you can provide would so greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Song Inspiration | All I Want Is You

A new series! Song inspiration… Mood boards inspired by song lyrics. Actually I’ve done this before but not in a long time and I’m bringing it back. Yay! Starting with… All I Want Is You, by U2. Random, I know, but that’s how I roll… and it’s a good song. Listen to it here.

You say you want diamonds on a ring of gold
You say you want your story to remain untold

But all the promises we made
From the cradle to the grave
When all I want is you

You say you’ll give me a highway with no one on it
A treasure just to look upon it
All the riches in the night

You say you’ll give me eyes in a world of blindness
A river in a time of dryness
A harbour in the tempest

But all the promises we make
From the cradle to the grave
When all I want is you

You say you want your love to work out right
To last with me through the night

You say you want diamonds on a ring of gold
Your story to remain untold
Your love not to grow cold

All the promises we break
From the cradle to the grave
When all I want is you

You
All I want is…you
All I want is…you
All I want is…you
