Dear Mr. Someday

For those of you who don’t know, I am single. No husband, no boyfriend, nada. And I write a wedding blog. Oh the irony. I’ve been thinking about my singleness a lot lately, so I thought I’d share my heart a little bit with you guys. I always love when other people share themselves with me, so I figured it only made sense to do the same.

For those of you who don’t know, I am a Christian. I don’t share about that a lot, because I want this to be a space where everyone feels welcome and inspired, and most of the time, sharing my faith doesn’t really tie in with the discussion of weddings and music. (Although I love people like Melina from Wedding Pickle who somehow seamlessly blend their faith into the topic of weddings – someday I may find a way to do this.) But yes, I love Jesus with all my heart and soul, and desire nothing more than to follow Him all my days.

So… that being said, I’m waiting. I believe that there is one man who is made for me, and I for him, and I’m not going to settle for anything less. Some of you may think this is a bizarre way to look at life, but lucky for you, you’re not the one waiting, so you don’t really need to worry about it do you? I kid, I kid. Snarkiness aside… I don’t believe that I have to go searching my man, I believe that in God’s timing we will find one another. (Actually I’m hoping we already have. Hint, hint.)  All of that is comforting, and I am content with where I’m at, but it doesn’t make singleness any less hard.

So, I’m not going to go on and on about it, because… well, there’s not that much more to say on the subject. And I don’t want to seem whiny. Which I fear I will become if I drone on about being single. But, what I do want to do, is create a little outlet for myself via this blog (about weddings, feel free to have another little chuckle at that.) I will occasionally be writing posts titled “Dear Mr. Someday” with little notes, thoughts, wishes, hopes, images, what-have-you that make me feel excited about the future, rather than disappointed about the present. I think it’s going to be fun, actually, and it will be cute to look back on once he’s in my life. And, all the rest of the days, I’ll continue to post wedding inspiration for all you lucky lovers out there. 😉

Dear Mr. Someday,

I can’t wait ’til you’re mine.

Katie @ Lovebird Productions - August 12, 2011 - 6:54 pm

Love your faith and strength! It will be amazing when you meet him and the wait will be more than worth it :)

Liesl - August 12, 2011 - 9:25 pm

I love the idea of you writing little “Dear Mr. Somebody” notes from time to time, and how lovely will it be to look back on one day once you find each other…which I know you will! :) Thank you for being so open and sharing all of this…loved reading it and learning more about you! Wonderful!

Becky {Bow Ties + Bliss} - August 13, 2011 - 2:13 pm

I love this, Colleen! I am in the exact same boat as you…I love Jesus with all my heart, but I don’t know exactly how or if I should work that in to my blog at all. But I completely admire Melina and how she does that SO well!! :)

Thanks for sharing!! And I know God will reward you for waiting and bring you an amazing guy some day :)

Brian - August 13, 2011 - 10:46 pm

A strange (and sometimes lonely) place to be for now, yes? The wise advice I’ve been taking to heart lately is that it’s better to wish I were married than to wish I weren’t.

Now if that doesn’t help with patience, I don’t know what will :~)

Kismet - August 14, 2011 - 6:16 am

I think sharing a bit of yourself is wonderful and I am certain one day you will find Mr.Someday and then you can show him all these wonderful little notes and things xx

Sandra Downie @ - August 15, 2011 - 4:22 pm

It’s ok to be single…marriage isn’t the end or beginning of what defines us…you blog is wonderful so keep up the good work!

Laura - August 15, 2011 - 5:36 pm

What a beautiful & heartfelt post :)

Stephanie Elizabeth {Fab You Bliss} - August 15, 2011 - 5:42 pm

Colleen – This is a fabulous post! So many people get into relationships or stay in relationships becasue they don’t want to be single. It’s awesome that you are waiting for the right one and I for one am looking forward to your new section on singleness. I’m sure it will be funny! And I have no doubt your Mr. Right is right around the corner :-)

Orly Lyndon {the boutique photographer} - August 15, 2011 - 6:36 pm

Such a lovely honest post x Amen to that x

Bree [capitolromance] - August 16, 2011 - 2:18 pm

good on you for sharing some personal feelings on your blog! i LOVE this and totally respect you for it! you will meet your Mr. Someday (or like you said, maybe you already have) and when you do, the wait will have been worth it!

Mel {The Oceanside Bride} - August 16, 2011 - 4:08 pm

I absolutely LOVE this! Singledom can get difficult {sometimes, it can also be fun!} but I love your strength and your faith and I think you’ve nailed it on the head with your perspective! When I was single and feeling like “when is it going to be my turn”, I’d remember that God is still preparing my future husband to be “perfect” for me and that it was still too soon to meet him. It would excite me to think he was in fact out there somewhere but still being prepared by God, as was I to be the perfect future wife for him. Your Dear Mr. Someday is out there! I can’t wait to hear more from you with this new series- I know they will be tons of fun! xoxo

Melina - August 19, 2011 - 3:14 am

I remember once feeling exactly how you feel right now. I had a mentor tell me to make a list of all the things I wanted in a man, big things, little things and not to worry about repeating things since that would emphasize its importance. Then she told me that when I felt like the list was done, to pray to God about that man out there for me who matches that list. Then put it in my bible and not look at it again until I felt I found him. I had it away for 6 years until I was engaged, pulled it out and realized how God answers prayer! I’ll pray for your man to find you! Thank you for the kind words about my blog :-) God Bless <3

Meagan - October 19, 2011 - 4:06 am

I was so completely encouraged to read this post this evening. I stumbled upon your adorable site and have been reading and enjoying it so much. Thank you for your honest words and bold faith.
Becuase of Him, Meagan :0)

Things I Love | Travel

The more traveling I do, the more I want to do. I inherited itchy feet from my mother, who worked in the travel industry for years. I was lucky enough to start traveling with my family at a young age, and have loved exploring some incredible places in this big, amazing world of ours. These boards are inspired by some of the places I’ve been (namely France, Spain, Mexico, Bermuda, Costa Rica, and Israel) and next week I’m going to share some spots on my wish list. Be inspired.

I have been engaged for a month and a half to my P.I.C. (partner in crime) and travel buddy. After giving up a great job and lifestyle in Las vegas I decided to live in a trailer with my boyfriend Max and travel the U.S. We decided three major things this year, first we want to move to Hawaii, create a life/home and become eventually become the people we always imagined we would become. Him, his mother, my mother, and our sisters cannot picture nor understand our/my vision for the wedding. They keep asking me for the venue but all i can think of is the place where Kaylin & Josh got married. Please let me know the location! It is like seeing a map in my mind without the location or directions.

Music Tips at The Charity Wedding

I’m over at The Charity Wedding today! Alicia asked for my help, because she and her husband had a less than easy time choosing the music for their wedding day, and she wanted to help out other brides and grooms in the same situation. She asked for some tips for couples starting out in the music selection process, so I offered some!

Here’s what Alicia had to say: For many, music selection is one of the easiest and most fun parts of wedding planning. Long before there is a ring on the finger, they know exactly what they would want to walk down the aisle to or what they would want their first dance to be. Many couples have a special song, making music selection a no brainer. But for those of you that found music selection difficult or frustrating even, you aren’t alone. Kyle and I love music and we enjoy a large array of options. However we would both fail at Name That Tune, we don’t have a song, and we aren’t the type the enjoys going to concerts. In fact, there are several songs we love, but we have no idea who sings them. Just because we don’t have musical dictionaries in our brains doesn’t mean we didn’t want great music and even more so, we wanted meaningful music for those special moments.

If you can relate, come check out my tips on where to begin!

alicia@Charitywedding - August 9, 2011 - 7:11 pm

Your tips are seriously fantastic!! Thank you so much for your wisdom!
