We’re doing things I love on Wednesday this week instead of Thurs. because I just needed to write this one.
Have you ever had that feeling when you meet someone, and you just know that you’re going to be best friends? Well that’s what happened when I first met Jessica Velarde. In fact, her wedding was only a couple of months after I met her, and I was honored to be invited, considering how little we knew each other at that point, but I also told her, “If you didn’t invite me, you’d be sad later, because we’re going to be really good friends soon.” And she is, of course, the kind of person who would take that kind of statement as it was meant, and respond by laughing and agreeing.
This past Sunday, the first day of the year, Jessica and her husband Rene relocated themselves to Lancaster, Pennsylvania, where Rene got a job leading worship at a church. And they took a little part of my heart with them. (And there was already a little piece living in New York and a little piece in Madrid, Spain and a little piece in Corvallis, Oregon where my other distant besties are… people need to stop doing this to me.)
Jess and I hung out at least once a week, for blogging, bagels, and the Bachelor (when it was on… which sadly, now it’s back and I don’t have my trash tv buddy!) As those who have been around know, we did the styled bridal shoot together and the photography contest. And… we talked about life and faith, we cried together a bit and laughed together a LOT. And we will still do this, because she is a forever friend and distance is nothing for true friendship. But I will miss her everyday presence more than I can say.
So that is my little tribute to my friend Jess. And if you need wedding photography in or around Lancaster, Pennsylvania, she’s your girl. Seriously, she’s amazing.
Back to regular wedding stuff tomorrow, I promise.
